The Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ 6

 LESSON 6

AS A THIEF IN THE NIGHT: AN EXPOSITION ON PAUL'S WORDS IN 1 THESSALONIANS 5:2

You are welcome to another edition of Insights from God's Word, a Bible Study Programme that is committed to sharing God's Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself.

In this edition, we continue with our series on The Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ. The topic for this study is: "as a thief in the night": An Exposition on Paul's Words in 1 Thessalonians 5:2. The complete message in this text reads: "For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night."

Friends, the expression "as a thief in the night" is not unique to the writings of the apostle Paul. We discover in the book of 2 Peter that the apostle Peter also used the same expression in connection to the second coming of Christ. This text in 2 Peter reads: "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up" (2 Peter 3:10).

Beloved, from the context of the texts above, it is clear that Peter and Paul are all referring to the second coming of Christ when they make use of the phrase; the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night. Many Christians have for a long time seen in these texts a proof for their belief in the secret rapture doctrine. They reason that if Christ is going to come as a thief in the night, then His coming must be silent or secret. But friends, from our previous study on the manner of Christ’s second coming, we came across a lot of Bible texts that made it very clear that Christ’s second coming is not going to be silent or secret. Moreover, when we critically analyse the expression "as a thief in the night" by keeping in view several similar texts of Scripture, we learn that the main point the apostles wanted to convey to their brethren was the virtue of watchfulness or adequate preparation as they awaited their Lord’s soon return.

Friends, even as a thief surprises his victim by showing up at a time that he is totally unprepared to resist him, so would the second coming of Christ be a surprise to those who are unprepared to meet the Saviour. For such people, the second coming of Christ will be to them like a thief comes in the night. They will be caught unprepared, and as a result will not be able to go home with the Lord. Thus, it is against this background that Peter and Paul utilized the expression "as a thief in the night".

In fact, from Luke 12:39-40, Christ Himself makes this position clear: "And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known which hour the thief would come, he would not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not."

Moreover, in the book of Revelation, Christ uses the analogy of a thief to warn His children to watch and prepare themselves adequately for His soon coming. Some of these texts are as follows:

a) "Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you" (Revelation 3:3).

b) "Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame" (Revelation 16:15).

Exhortation: "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming" (Matthew 25:13).

Beloved, Christ expects us to prepare for His return at all times. He expects us to live in daily anticipation of His second coming. For if we do this, the second advent of our Lord will not take us by surprise. It will not come upon us as a thief comes in the night. As I bring this study to a close, the question I want you to reflect on is this: Should Christ come today, will He be to you as a thief comes in the night, or you will meet Him in joy because you have prepared for His soon coming? Whatever your answer, Jesus can help you to be ready for His soon return. Why not ask Him to help you in prayer now?

In our next study, we will consider the topic: "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye": An Exposition on Paul's Words in 1 Corinthians 15:52. Please do well to go through this text before the next study is released.

Can Watching P**rn Impact Family Relationships?

There’s a significant amount of research confirming how porn can impact people’s relationships.

While you may have thought about how porn could hurt your partner, have you ever considered how it can separate you from your loved ones outside of just romantic relationships—like your family?

Relationships require effort, time, and care in order to thrive, and porn can put a wedge between consumers and their families by making them withdraw from what matters most to them in some significant ways.

Research shows that porn can make consumers more aggressive and objectifying toward others—and that doesn’t just translate to those you’re in a romantic relationship with. People, in general, can become categorized as objects for use, and relationships outside of satisfying sexual gratification can seem to lose their value or importance.

Porn can make consumers withdraw mentally, emotionally, and physically by turning to a habit that thrives in isolation instead of spending quality time with those they love. There’s science behind how porn consumption can become a compulsive behavior and monopolize a large majority of consumers’ thoughts, energy, and time.

Feelings of intense guilt or shame and a perceived need to keep the habit a secret can also separate consumers from those they’re closest to.

Porn fantasies exploit family relationships

If those facts aren’t enough for you to see the impact porn has on family relationships, consider this: porn normalizes and fantasizes versions of real relationships that would never be healthy or accepted in real life.

Take, for instance, some of the highest-ranking search terms year after year on just one major porn site—like MILF, mom, stepmom, and stepsister. How is it possible for real relationships not to be affected if someone regularly consumes porn that sells fantasies that sex with their mom or your sibling is acceptable?

Researchers also did the largest study to date on porn titles, finding that one in eight porn titles on three popular porn sites describes sexual violence. The most frequent form of sexual violence in the sample—8,421 titles—was related to sexual activity between family members. Common terms included step, aunt, brother, cousin, dad, daughter, family, father, gran, incest, and mom.

In the study, representations of step relationships were actually less common than blood relationships, with the majority of titles describing sexual activity between members of the immediate family. Mothers were predominantly the family member depicted as engaging in sex with other family members—particularly with their sons.

Now consider the broader repercussions. There were 42 billion visits to just one major porn site in 2019—that’s more than 115 million visits a day, or 1,331 visits per second. Given that the top searched for terms on that site alone sell the idea that sex with a parent or a sibling is sexy and normal, it’s safe to say there’s a significant demand for this type of content, and that a lot of people are consuming it.

But is it healthy to repeatedly consume content that consistently sexualizes family members and normalizes unhealthy relationship dynamics like incest?

How porn can hurt future family

No one has the “perfect” family. Even if your current family relationships aren’t where you’d like them to be, you have the power to decide how you want to build your own family. You can make decisions and develop habits now to help you build healthy family relationships in your future.

Some people think that consuming porn is a switch they can turn on or off based on circumstances or relationship status, but the research shows something significantly different.

In fact, many people are surprised to find that giving up a porn habit is more difficult than they thought it would be. Because porn can become addictive, some continue consuming it when they’re in a committed, fulfilling, sexual relationship and they’re trying their best to stop.

Plus, porn can negatively impact more than just the consumer. Many people share experiences about how their family member’s porn habit has hurt them and changed their life—like a parent choosing porn over their family, or the difficulty of having a sibling who struggles.

Even if a consumer doesn’t have a spouse or kids of their own but might want to someday, consider how consuming porn could affect future loved ones. The idea that someone can turn off a porn habit whenever they want isn’t consistent with the science behind how porn impacts consumers.

Fight for the love of your family

The temporary gratification of porn may seem desirable in the moment, but it’s not worth everything it might take—like relationships with the people who are (hopefully) really there for you no matter what.

If this is something you struggle with, connect with a community that can help you heal, and open up to your loved ones about your porn habit so they can support you along your journey.

Family can give what porn never will—and that’s worth fighting for.

The Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ 5

 LESSON 5

THE ONE SHALL BE TAKEN, AND THE OTHER LEFT: AN EXPOSITION ON CHRIST'S WORDS IN MATTHEW 24:40-41

You are welcome to another edition of Insights from God's Word, a Bible Study Programme that is committed to sharing God's Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself.

In this edition, we continue with our series on The Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ. The topic for this study is: "...the one shall be taken, and the other left": An Exposition on Christ's Words in Matthew 24:40-41. The complete message in this text reads: "Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left."

Beloved, this statement of Christ as captured in Matthew 24:40-41 is set within the context of a variety of issues that Christ related concerning His second coming in Matthew 24. In Matthew 24:36-44, Jesus compared the events that took place in the days of Noah with the events that will take place prior to His second coming. In fact, we get a clearer picture of Christ’s words in Matthew 24:40-41 when we consider the larger passage of Matthew 24:36-44. Thus, at this point, I will want us to review this passage one verse at a time:

1. The text in Mathew 24:37 reads: "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." As I stated earlier, Christ confirms in this text that the events that will occur prior to His second coming will be similar to those that took place just before the flood in the days of Noah. In other words, these two events share some parallels or similarities.

2. From the text in Matthew 24:38, we learn that  the people who lived in Noah's day engaged in eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the ark. This statement above basically means that the people in Noah's day went about their businesses as usual without seeing the need to change their course of life so they could be saved.

3. Beloved, in Matthew 24:39, Christ makes it clear that before the people finally realized the seriousness of Noah's loud warnings, the floods had finally come; and in a rage took them all away. Christ warns us in this text that in our time too, a lot of people are going to focus on their various businesses as usual (work, school, entertainment, weddings etc.) without seeing the necessity to prepare their hearts for His second coming.

4. During the time of Noah, two classes of people emerged after he had preached for 120 years. The large majority were destroyed by the flood; while only a few, even eight souls were saved through the ark (1 Peter 3:20). Christ taught his disciples in Matthew 24:40-41 that a similar scenario will occur when He comes the second time. That is, one class of people will be destroyed while another class will be saved.

5. Now, in regard to those who failed to heed Noah's warnings, the Scripture teaches that, the flood came and “took them all away” (Matthew 24:39). In other words, they were destroyed. Please note the phrase "took them all away". A similar usage is found in Christ's words in Matthew 24:40; "Then shall two be in the field, the one shall be taken (in other words destroyed), and the other left (in other words saved) (Emphasis Added). From this illustration of Christ, we learn that two people can be farmers in a field; Now, the one who will fail to prepare his heart for the Lord's coming will be taken (in other words, he will be destroyed). Nevertheless, the one who will make the adequate heart preparation by constantly watching for His Lord's coming will be left (in other words, he will be saved).

6. Friends, there are numerous quotations in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible that support this position of interpreting Matthew 24:40-41 regarding the words taken and left. Here are some few examples. Let’s check them out:

A) TAKEN means destroyed:

i. “So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken” (Jeremiah 38:28).

ii. “He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD” (Jeremiah 48:44).

iii. “But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption” (2 Peter 2:12).

B) LEFT means saved:

i. “2 In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. 3 And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem:” (Isaiah 4:2-3).

ii. “Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left” (Isaiah 24:6).

iii. “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:17). Beloved, when Christ appears the second time to redeem His people, the wicked will be destroyed (taken) by the brightness of His coming (2 Thessalonians 2:8), while the righteous will be (left alive) and proclaim: "...this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us;" (Isaiah 25:9).

Friends, the above interpretation of "taken" and "left" as we have noted in Scripture is INCONSISTENT with the secret rapture interpretation of "taken" and "left"; where the people taken are those saved, and the people left are those doomed.

7. Beloved, the disciple Luke also records this same discourse between Christ and His disciples in Luke 17:26-37. In the verses 34-37, we read the following: "34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. 35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together."

Friends, in the verse 37, the disciples were confused in regard to Christ's words.  And so they asked him the question: Lord, you are saying one will be taken and the other will be left. Where will the first group be taken? And Christ using strong metaphoric words declared: "Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together". In other words, Christ explained to the disciples that these people are going to be taken dead. This metaphor concerning the fate of the wicked is also used in connection with Christ's second coming in Revelation 19:11-21. The verses 17 and 18 of this chapter read: "17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great."

Friends, from Matthew 24:40-41, we learn that just as the flood in Noah's time took away the wicked, so will the wicked inhabitants of the earth be destroyed when Christ appears the second time.

8. From what we have studied so far, it is clear that the passage in Matthew 24:40-41 cannot be used to support the idea of a secret rapture. In fact, the Bible teaches the opposite in regard to the manner of Christ’s second. To prove this point, I want us to consider the following texts of Scripture:

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a SHOUT, with the VOICE of the archangel, and with the TRUMPET of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first (1 Thessalonians 4:16; Capital Emphasis Added). Beloved, just a little thinking about this text will bring out the clear fact that Christ's second coming cannot be silent or secret as it involves shouting and trumpeting that comes from God Himself.

Moreover, 1 Thessalonians 4:17 which is the immediate next verse after the verse 16 above reads: "THEN WE WHICH ARE ALIVE AND REMAIN (that is, after the great devastation that will destroy the wicked as recorded in Revelation 6:14-17) SHALL BE CAUGHT UP TOGETHER WITH THEM (That is, the resurrected saints) IN THE CLOUDS, TO MEET THE LORD IN THE AIR: AND SO SHALL WE EVER BE WITH THE LORD” (Emphasis Added).

Beloved, when the Scripture says we will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, the clear meaning from Scripture is that the innumerable host of angels who will attend Christ at His coming, will actually bear us up on their wings to meet our Lord in the air. Let's check the Bible evidence from Matthew 24:30-31. The text there reads: "30 And then shall APPEAR the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth MOURN, and they shall SEE the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a GREAT SOUND OF A TRUMPET, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other" (Capital Emphasis Added).

Friends, you may describe the passage above to mean anything but definitely not something that is secret or silent. With our Lord coming back with power and great glory; and then sending His angels to gather His faithful ones with the great sound of heavenly trumpets; while the numerous wicked of the earth mourn because of their doom, how on earth can anyone describe these events as of a secret or silent nature?

Beloved, our Christ is not coming back as the humble Child who slept in a manger. He is fearlessly coming the second time with power and great glory, to redeem His faithful ones and dispense his wrath on the wicked (Revelation 22:12; Revelation 19:11-21).

Moreover, Revelation 1:7 declares: "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM, and they also which pierced Him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so Amen" (Capital Emphasis Added).

Finally, beloved, Psalm 50:3 summarizes everything I have been trying to put across in this study with these words: "Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about Him."

Friends, as the Scripture evidence strongly points out, the idea of a silent secret rapture is not found anywhere in the Bible; and as we have learnt in our study today, the text in Matthew 24:40-41 cannot be used to justify the doctrine.

Exhortation: Soon and not too far away, our Saviour will come to redeem His saints. Will you be taken (lost) or left (saved)? Why not ask our Loving Father in prayer now for the necessary strength to make the needed heart preparation for the soon coming of Jesus?

In our next study, we will consider the topic: "as a thief in the night": An Exposition on Paul's Words in 1 Thessalonians 5:2. Please do well to go through this text before the next study is released.

Stay blessed and keep shining for King Jesus.

The Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ 4

 LESSON 4

THE SECRET RAPTURE DOCTRINE

You are welcome to another edition of Insights from God's Word, a Bible Study Programme that is committed to sharing God's Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself.

In this edition, we continue with our series on The Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ. The topic for this study is: The Secret Rapture Doctrine. Beloved, among the teachings that have become prominent and untouchable within many mainstream Christian denominations today is the secret rapture doctrine. In this study, I want us to consider the following questions in regard to the secret rapture doctrine:

i) What are the basic tenets of the secret rapture doctrine?

ii) Do these tenets synchronize with the Bible?

1. Friends, the basic tenets of the secret rapture doctrine are as follows:

A) The rapture doctrine purports that Christ will come back to this earth in two phases. First, He will come spiritually to "rapture away” believers who have been faithful to Him. This first phase of His coming is going to be silent or secret.

B) After the righteous are raptured away to heaven, a fierce antichrist power will appear on the earth and rule the world for a period of seven years. This seven year period is popularly referred to as the tribulation period.

C) During this tribulation period, people who will refuse to go along with the new order of the antichrist will be brutally persecuted. However, amidst the great persecution by this satanic power, anyone who will believe and embrace Christ at this difficult time will have a second chance at salvation.

D) After the seven-year tribulation period, Christ returns visibly to destroy the antichrist power and dispense His wrath on the world's nations. This is the general teaching of the secret rapture doctrine.

2) Even though many people are aware of the basic tenets of the rapture doctrine as outlined above, they do not really know where the teaching originates from. In fact, many Christians will confidently tell you that the secret rapture doctrine is solidly based on the Bible. But friends, we will soon see from the biblical analysis I’m going to share with you in this study that the secret rapture doctrine does not harmonize with Scripture. Beloved, the real fact is that the secret rapture doctrine was born out of the theory of futurism. The theory of futurism was formulated by a Jesuit monk, named Francisco Ribera (1537-1591). This theory basically postulates that the antichrist has not shown up yet, but he will in the future. Unfortunately, Ribera's end time concepts in relation to the antichrist have been made popular within Christendom and beyond not because these concepts are solidly grounded on the Word of God, but because they had been carried worldwide by books such as Hal Lindsey's; “The Late Great Planet Earth" and "Countdown to Armageddon".

Beloved, from Ribera's futurism ideas, a lot of unbiblical teachings slowly made their way into the Christian church. And one of such teachings is the secret rapture doctrine. Even though this doctrine has become very popular and accepted as credible in most Christian churches today, the irony is that it is shattered to pieces when one decides to compare its basic tenets with what the Bible has to say concerning the antichrist power and the second coming of Christ.

Friends, just like the theory of futurism, the secret rapture doctrine has also been carried forward not so much by Scriptural evidence, but through novels and movies such as; the “Left Behind” series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. This “Left Behind” series has really printed the false concepts of the secret rapture doctrine in the minds of several people across the globe. Even though the authors Tim and Jerry have clearly indicated at the cover of their book that the book is a novel of the earth's last days, many Christians actually come to believe that the contents of the book actually present the real issues that will take place at the final hours of this earth’s history. Thus, irrespective of the fact that the Left Behind series is a novel, many Christian denominations have gone ahead to make the contents of the series a fundamental belief.

3. At this point, I want us to assess how the secret rapture doctrine will do when it is weighed along the pages of Scripture:

A) First and foremost, the Bible does not teach a two-phase second coming of Jesus as the secret rapture doctrine postulates. Friends, the order of events where Christ first comes spiritually or secretly, and then later visibly is not taught anywhere in the Bible. The Bible actually teaches a single and final second coming of Jesus. Let's check the biblical evidence:

i) From John 14:3, we read the following words of assurance from Christ: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

ii) From Acts 1:9-11, we read this testimony from angels: "9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven."

iii) From Hebrews 9:28, we read: "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear THE SECOND TIME without sin unto salvation" (Capital Emphasis Added).

Beloved, the texts above together with other texts of Scripture such as 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Matthew 24:27-31, Jude 1:14 and Revelation 1:7 do support a SINGLE and FINAL second coming of Jesus. There is no text in Scripture which divides the second coming of Christ into two phases as the secret rapture doctrine does.

B) The secret rapture doctrine also teaches that the antichrist will come after Christ has raptured the saints away to heaven. The Bible however teaches differently. Let's check the scriptural evidence:

From 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, 9, we read the following from the apostle Paul in relation to the second coming of Christ:

“2:1 We beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped: so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God."

2:9 "Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders”  (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, 9).

Beloved, the basic message from the first three verses in 2 Thessalonians 2 is that; Jesus Christ will not come back the second time unless the man of sin or the antichrist power has been revealed. To put this differently, Paul is basically saying in these verses that the man of sin or the antichrist will be revealed before Christ comes the second time. Meanwhile, the rapture theory however places the coming of the antichrist after the second coming of Christ. Friends, one of the main reasons for the proposition of the secret rapture doctrine was to hide the identity of the antichrist power. Now, if the whole world is made to believe that the antichrist is supposed to come in the future after the rapture, then no one is likely to identify the antichrist with any present power now because the rapture has not yet taken place. Thus, this deception clears the way for the antichrist power to rapidly progress towards its universal agenda. Clever, isn't it?

C) The secret rapture doctrine also teaches that when Christ raptures away His faithful believers to heaven, those who will be left behind will actually have a second chance to be saved. The theory teaches that after the rapture comes a seven - year tribulation period. During this tribulation period, people who will refuse to go along with the orders of the antichrist will be brutally persecuted. However, amidst the great persecution by this satanic power, anyone who will believe and embrace Christ at this difficult time will have a second chance at salvation.

But friends, the Bible however teaches differently concerning this issue of believers being offered a second chance to be saved. From Revelation 22:11-12, we read the following words from Christ Himself just before His second advent:

“11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be” (Revelation 22:11-12).

Beloved, from this passage, we learn that probation even closes before the second advent of Christ. Before our Lord comes the second time, the destinies of all men will have been fixed through the investigative judgement. This explains why Christ is able to come back with His reward at His second advent. Thus, contrary to the secret rapture doctrine, there wouldn’t be any opportunity of a second chance for people to repent once Christ appears in the skies of heaven.

Friends, besides the fact that probation will even close before Christ comes the second time, the Bible is also very clear about what happens to the wicked at the second coming of Christ. Let us consider some few Bible texts that clarify this point:

i) "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that no not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8).

ii) “And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:” (2 Thessalonians 2:8).

iii) "And the slain of the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground” (Jeremiah 25:33).

Friends, the texts above make it clear that the wicked inhabitants of the earth will perish when Christ comes back the second time (Revelation 16:17-21; 2 Thessalonians 2:8). From 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, we also learn that Christ will take the saints to heaven with Him at His second coming. Thus, we can deduce from these facts that when Christ comes back the second time, there will not be any living human being on the planet for some antichrist power to come and persecute.

In fact, the Prophet Jeremiah makes this point clear when he prophesies the following in relation to the nature of the earth after the second coming of Christ: “23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. 24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. 25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. 26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. 27 For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end” (Jeremiah 4:23-27).

D) Friends, contrary to the secret rapture position that faithful believers in Christ will be raptured away to escape the end time tribulation, the Bible teaches that God’s faithful children will actually go through a time of persecution before they are delivered from the planet (Revelation 13:11-17). In fact, we learn from Scripture that many of God’s faithful children had to drink of the cup of persecution that their Saviour drank. For instance, out of the 11 faithful apostles of Christ, only one did not die a martyr’s death. From Hebrews 11:35-38, we learn how several of the early disciples were tortured and killed because of their faith in Christ. Friends, the prophecy which Christ gave concerning the sons of Zebedee in Mathew 20:23, also applies to God’s people who will be living in the final hours of this earth’s history. God’s people who will be living at the time of the end will also drink of the cup of persecution that the Saviour drank, and be baptized with the baptism that He was baptized with.  Let’s check out some few Bible texts that prove this point:

i) “Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you;…” (John 15:20).

ii) "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution" (2 Timothy 3:12).

iii) "Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” (Matthew 24:9, 13).

iv) “ 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy” (2 Peter 4:12-13).

v) “And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years” (Revelation 20:4).

Beloved, the Bible texts above make it clear that God’s children, instead of being freed from persecution, actually go through the process before they are translated to heaven. This experience of sharing in Christ’s sufferings is one of the measures that God utilizes to perfect the character of the saints and fit them for the eternal kingdom of His Son. Moreover, the saints, having shared in the sufferings of their Saviour will also be able to share in His joy when the great controversy is over, and the planet is restored to its Edenic state.

Friends, from our study so far, we have proven from the pages of Scripture that not even one of the basic tenets of the secret rapture doctrine is supported by Scripture. In fact, contrary to what the secret rapture doctrine postulates, the Bible makes it clear that Christ's second coming is going to be a literal event, a visible event, an audible event, a glorious event, a worldwide event and a climactic event. For an in – depth study on the way or manner that Christ will come back the second time, you can request for our previous study captioned: The Manner of Christ's Second Coming.

Exhortation: Beloved, there is no second chance for salvation when Christ appears in the skies of heaven. The King comes the second time with His reward in hand to give unto everyone according to their works (Revelation 22:12). At this point, I want to simply ask you that with the kind of life you are living today, will you really receive a good reward from the Master or you’ll make up with a bad one? My dear friend, why not ask God to give you the strength to live a godly life today so you can embrace Christ at His coming?

In our subsequent studies, we are going to examine various New Testament texts that many Christians frequently use to support their belief in the secret rapture doctrine. We will be considering texts such as: Matthew 24:40-41, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, 1 Thessalonians 5:2, and 1 Corinthians 15:52.

In our next study, we will consider the topic: "...the one shall be taken, and the other left": An Exposition on Christ's Words in Matthew 24:40-41. Please do well to go through this passage before the next study is released.

Stay blessed and keep shining for King Jesus.

The Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ 3

LESSON 3

THE MANNER OF CHRIST'S SECOND COMING

You are welcome to another edition of Insights from God's Word, a Bible study programme that is committed to sharing God's Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself.

In this edition, we continue with our series on The Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ. The topic for this study is: The Manner of Christ's Second Coming. In this study we are going to consider from Scripture the way or manner in which Christ will come the second time.

Beloved, among the various teachings in Scripture which the devil has seriously distorted is the topic on the Manner of Christ's Second Advent. Our Saviour knew that Satan will attack this truth, and hence warned His disciples to be wary of the deceptions of the enemy.

From Matthew 24, we find among Christ's answer to His disciples concerning the signs that will precede His second coming the following:

“24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

24:23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

24:25 Behold, I have told you before.

24:26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

(Matthew 24: 4, 5, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27)

Friends, in these texts above, Christ plainly notifies us that we should be watching out for a counterfeit from the enemy in regard to His second coming. Among the instructions Christ gave the disciples, He was very particular about the fact that His second coming was not going to be limited to some part of the world so that believers come to that area to consult Him. In fact, the clear words from the lips of our Saviour are as follows:

"Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not" (Matthew 24:23).

"Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not" (Matthew 24:26).

But that "...as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" (Matthew 24:27).

Thus, in other words, Christ is plainly saying here that just as the lightning that shines from the east to the west is seen by all, so His second coming is not going to be a secret event or be limited to a certain part of the world.

Friends, now that we have considered Christ's own words concerning the deception that will precede the manner of His second coming, I want us to consider some plain biblical facts concerning this topic. The Bible is very clear concerning the way or manner Christ will come. In fact, the Bible makes it clear that Christ's second coming is going to be: a literal event, a visible event, an audible event, a glorious event, a worldwide event and a climactic event.

At this point, I want us to consider what the Bible has to say concerning each of these facets in regard to the manner of Christ's second coming. Friends, from the evidence of Scripture, we learn that:

1. CHRIST'S SECOND COMING WILL BE A LITERAL EVENT

The word literal here means not figurative or metaphorical, that is; “following the words of the original very closely and exactly” (Dictionary.com)

Beloved, from Acts 1:9-11, we learn that the second coming of Christ is going to be a literal event. We read from Acts 1:9-11, the following: "9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:9-11).

Friends, from this passage we learn clearly that Christ's second coming is going to be a literal event. The angels confirmed the fact that Christ was going to come "...in like manner..." (Acts 1:11) as He went to heaven. Some of the key points that we can glean from the phrase "in like manner" from the passage in Acts 1:9-11 are as follows:

A) Christ Himself is the one Who is going to return. In other words, He is going to come personally. The angels confirm this with the words: "this same Jesus" (Acts 1:11). In other words, the Christ Who walked with the disciples, healed the sick, cared for the needy, and paid the penalty for our sins on the cross at Calvary is the same Christ Who is going to return. Thus, from this biblical fact, it is clear that Christ's second coming is not going to be a spiritual event; neither is His coming going to take place in our hearts as some folks will want to carry across. But rather, as we have learnt, His coming is going to be a literal and a personal event.

B) From the passage in Acts 1:9-11, we also note that even as Christ went up to heaven on clouds (Acts 1:9), so is He going to come the second time with clouds. From Revelation 1:7, we read this statement of fact in relation to Christ's second coming: "Behold, he cometh with clouds;..."

Thus, friends, the evidence from Scripture above, make it clear that the second coming of Christ is going to be a literal event.

2. CHRIST'S SECOND COMING WILL BE A VISIBLE EVENT

The word visible basically means "Capable of being seen; open to easy view" (Wordweb)

Friends, the Bible makes it clear that Christ's second coming is going to be a visible event. I want us to consider some clear evidences from the Word of God:

A) "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen" (Revelation 1:7; Capital Emphasis Added).

B) "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall SEE the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory" (Matthew 24:30; Capital Emphasis Added).

C) "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall SEE him as he is" (1 John 3:2; Capital Emphasis Added).

Friends, from these texts above, it is clear that all living beings are going to see Christ when He appears the second time. Our Lord's coming is not going to be something spiritual or secret as we hear about so much in several quarters in Christendom. But as we have seen from Scripture, the second coming of Christ is going to be a visible event.

3. CHRIST'S SECOND COMING IS GOING TO BE AN AUDIBLE EVENT

The word audible basically means "heard or perceptible by the ear" (Wordwed)

Beloved, the Bible makes it clear that Christ's second coming is going to be an audible event. Let us consider some clear evidences from the Word of God:

A) "And he shall send his angels with a GREAT SOUND OF A TRUMPET, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other" (Matthew 24:31; Capital Emphasis Added).

B) "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a SHOUT, WITH THE VOICE OF THE ARCHANGEL, AND WITH THE TRUMP OF GOD: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:" (1 Thessalonians 4:16; Capital Emphasis Added).

C) "Our God shall come, AND SHALL NOT KEEP SILENCE: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him" (Psalm 50:3; Capital Emphasis Added).

Friends, from the texts above, it is very clear that the second coming of Christ is going to be very audible. With heavenly trumpets and the shout of the Archangel, the Lord is going to ensure that the world gets to know that the great day of His wrath has come. And beloved, no one can ever sleep through that. This is so much evidence from Scripture that stands in contrast to the widely accepted teaching that Christ's second coming is going to be silent or secret.

4. CHRIST'S SECOND COMING WILL BE A GLORIOUS EVENT

The word glorious means "Characterized by grandeur" or "Having great beauty and splendour"  (WordWeb)

Friends, the Bible makes it clear that Christ's second coming is going to be a glorious event. Let us take some time to consider some clear evidences from the Word of God:

A) "Looking for that blessed hope, and the GLORIOUS appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;" (Titus 2:13; Capital Emphasis Added).

B) "When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:" (Matthew 25:31).

C) For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels (Luke 9:26).

Friends, the texts above make it clear that the second coming of Christ is going to be attended with so much splendour that human eyes have never witnessed. His coming is going to be a glorious event; for Christ is coming with His own glory, the glory of the Father and the glory of all the holy angels in heaven (Luke 9:26). The Scripture says the wicked world cannot stand the brightness that will attend His coming (2 Thessalonians 2:8).

Beloved, for us to have an understanding of how glorious the second coming of Christ will be, I want us to consider some events which occurred during the death and resurrection of Christ. From Matthew 27, we read about how Christ was crucified and then buried in Josephs new tomb. From this passage, we learn how Satan through the chief priests and Pharisees wanted to make sure that the body Christ remained in the grave forever. We read this story from Matthew 27:62-66 as follows:

“62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, 63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. 64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. 65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. 66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch (Matthew 27:62-66).

But beloved, as the soldiers were keeping a faithful watch over Christ's body, a dramatic event occurred early Sunday morning. We read about this event from Matthew 28:1-4: " 1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. 2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men" (Matthew 28:1-4).

Friends, the account of this passage is clear. From the glory of one angel who descends from heaven, strong Roman soldiers are shaken and become as dead men. Wow!  This is just the glory of one angel. But friends, that is not all. We are told from Matthew 25:31 that all the holy angels are going to be with Christ when He comes back the second time to redeem His saints from this miserable world. The glory of all these angels, I believe will be enough to blind the entire human race. But beloved, that is still not the entire company that comes with Christ; for we are told in Luke 9:26 that Christ also comes with His own glory and with the glory of the Father. Beside the angelic host, the Godhead also joins the train that descends from heaven on that great rescue mission of all time. Friends, it will be very difficult for us to even speculate the kind of glory that will attend the second coming of Christ on that day when heaven will be silent (Revelation 8:1). Human minds cannot adequately describe the scene today; for the glory of the second coming will be beyond what we have ever thought or imagined.

Friends, the Bibles makes it clear that Christ's second coming will be a glorious event. Even though the wicked world will be destroyed by this glory (2 Thessalonians 2:8), the righteous will be miraculously shielded from the overpowering brightness that envelops the world (Isaiah 25:9). It is my sincere desire that I will behold the splendour of that day; and more importantly, see the face of my Maker Who bled and died for me on Calvarys cross. I'm sure this is your desire too!

5. CHRIST'S SECOND COMING WILL BE A WORLDWIDE EVENT

The word worldwide basically means "Involving the entire earth; not limited or provincial in scope " (WordWeb)

Friends, the Bible makes it clear that Christ's second coming is going to be a worldwide event. It's not going to take place at some little corner in some part of the world, so that the rest of the world who were unfortunate to witness His coming will have to see it on TV. Friends, the second coming of Christ is going to be worldwide, and you wouldn't need anyone to tell you it has happened.

As the lightning that flashes from the east to the west is seen by all, so will the coming of Christ be witnessed by everyone on the planet. From Matthew 24:30, we read the following in relation to this point: "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall ALL THE TRIBES OF THE EARTH mourn, and they shall SEE the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory" (Capital Emphasis Added).

Friends, the content of the text above is very clear. All the tribes of the earth are going to see the son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Friends, the text in Matthew 24:30 does not mean that everyone on the planet is going to mourn when Christ appears the second time. Scripture makes it clear that it is the wicked inhabitants of the earth that will mourn on that day (Revelation 6:12-17; Matthew 25:31-46; Isaiah 25:9). They will realize too late that they have made a terrible mistake of not accepting heaven's precious Gift of salvation. And now, as the Saviour descends in majesty and splendor, the entire wicked world hide from the scene.

We read from Revelation 6:14-17 the following: "14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”

Beloved, as the entire wicked world flees from the presence of Christ at His coming, the righteous will proclaim: "... Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation" (Isaiah 25:9).

Friends, the second coming of our Lord is going to be a worldwide event. Every eye is going to see Christ come at the same time (Revelation 1:7). This is the reason why Christ warns us in Matthew 24 with the following words:

"Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not" (Matthew 24:23).

"Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not" (Matthew 24:26).

But that "...as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" (Matthew 24:27).

Beloved, Christ made these statements in regard to His second coming to alert us ahead of time so we are not deceived by the counterfeits of Satan in regard to this event. You see friends, from the evidence of Scripture; we learn that we will not need anyone to inform us that Christ has come. For His coming is going to be a worldwide event. And the events that will accompany the second coming will be so amazing and supernatural that you cannot miss it.

6. CHRIST'S SECOND COMING WILL BE A CLIMACTIC EVENT

A climactic event or time is one in which important or exciting things happen: a climactic moment in history (Cambridge Learners Dictionary)

Beloved, the Bible makes it clear that Christ's second coming is going to be a climactic event. It's going to be the highest or most exciting point in the series of events that have underlined the great controversy battle between Christ and Satan. When Christ appears the second time, He comes with His reward to give unto every man according as his work shall be (Revelation 22:12). To the wicked inhabitants of the world, the second coming of Christ will be a terrible event; For they will wish to be covered up by the caves and mountains of the earth instead of see the face of Him whom they have rejected (Revelation 6:12-17). From the Prophet Jeremiah, we read the following in relation to what happens to the wicked:

A) "I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger” (Jeremiah 4:26).

B) "And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground” (Jeremiah 25:33).

Beloved, contrary to what the wicked world will experience, the second coming of Christ is going to form an exciting climax for God's people across the globe. From Isaiah 25:8-9, we read the following in regard to the righteous: "8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. 9 And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation" (Isaiah 25:8-9).

Thus friends, Christ's second coming is going to be a climactic or the most important event in the great controversy battle between Christ and Satan. And for the people of God across the globe, this event is going to be a joyous event that will fulfill their innermost longings.

Beloved, in this study, we have reviewed the Bible's position on the manner of Christ's second coming. We have learnt today that Christ's coming is going to be a literal event, a visible event, an audible event, a glorious event, a worldwide event and a climactic event. As I stated earlier, to have an understanding of these clear facts of Scripture in relation to Christ's second coming is very important. This knowledge will enable each one of us to decipher the truth from Satan's deceptions in regard to the events that will attend Christ at His second coming.

But friends, mere head knowledge of these facts will ultimately not save any of us. The Lord requires that we give ourselves to Him completely so that He can work in us to will and to do of His good pleasure. Beloved, the Lord expects from each of us that before He comes, we will be like Him in character, shining as lights to the world around us.

The question I want you to ponder on as I bring this study to a close is this: Considering the kind of life you are living today, will you be ready to go home with Christ when He comes to deliver His children from planet Earth? Just search your heart and answer this question honestly. In case you realize that your heart is not right with God, you need not despair. There is still an opportunity for you to give Him all your heart today. Just open your heart my beloved friend, and accept heaven's precious Gift of salvation. The good news is that you don't have to pay a penny for this gift. It's free for all. From John 3:16, we read the following timeless words: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Beloved, if you give your life to Christ today, you will never be disappointed. He will help you to overcome sin. He will help you to start a brand new life in Him.

Exhortation: "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation" (Hebrews 9:28).

In our next study, we will consider the topic: The Secret Rapture Doctrine. The Bible Study references for this study are Matthew 24: 4, 5, 11, 24, 25, 26, 27; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, 9; Matthew 24:9, 13 and Revelation 6:9-11. Please do well to go through these passages before the next study is released.

Stay blessed and keep shining for King Jesus.

HE WILL NEVER STOP LOVING YOU!!!

What if i have watched the worst imaginable version of porn? What if i have done the worst imaginable sexual activity? Will God still love me? πŸ™ˆπŸ˜”πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜©πŸ˜«πŸ˜£πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜

Sometimes our struggle pulls us into the abyss of sexual  temptation to a point where we are afraid of who we are becoming.

For example some cannot go a day without sexual intercourse. They have multiple sexual partners and have done just about everything portrayed in hard core porn. Some have watched stuff that is opposite to their beliefs on sexuality and they are now questioning their own sexual orientation.

What happens when you think you have done the worst thing imaginable?

Would God still love you?

Even when you feel filthy and are disgusted at the stuff you have watched or done?

Rem Rom 8:31-39: "What, then, can we possibly say in response to this? Don't you realize that God is on our side? And if God is for us, who can be against us? God does not need convincing to be good to us; No! It is we who need convincing that God is good to us! If he did not withhold his own Son– but gave him up for us all– don't you realize that he will withhold nothing good from us? But along with his Son, he will give us all things that are for our good! Who is it, then, that brings charges against those whom God has chosen? Stop believing Satan's lies about God — it is not God who brings charges against us! It is God who sets us right with himself. It is God who heals and transforms us. Then who condemns? It is not Jesus, oh no! Christ Jesus, who died– and more importantly, who was raised from death to life– is sitting at God's right hand and is working hand in hand with his Father. Together they are interceding with the malignancy of sin in our minds and holding in check the power of the evil one, while providing the Remedy for our deliverance, healing and restoration. Who, then, shall ever separate us from the love of Christ? Shall problems, or hardships, or criticism, or persecution, or hunger, or disease, or homelessness, or nakedness, or imprisonment, or financial ruin, or terrorists, or war? As it is written: "For no matter what we face, including death, we will not doubt you; even if we are treated as sheep led to the slaughter– our confidence in you will not waver." In all things — no matter what we face — we are more than conquerors through trust in him who loved us. For I am absolutely convinced that God is totally on our side and nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the past nor present nor future, nor any power in the universe; neither things exalted nor things debased, nor anything else in all creation– nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." LESSON 2

THE SIGNS OF CHRIST'S SECOND COMING

You are welcome to another edition of Insights from God's Word, a Bible study programme that is committed to sharing God's Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself.

In this edition, we continue with our series on The Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ. The topic for this study is: The Signs of Christ's Second Coming. In this study we are going to consider from Scripture the signs that will precede the Second Coming of Christ.

1. Beloved, if you have ever wanted to know the exact period of time that Christ would come to redeem His children from this terrible world, then you are not alone. Right back in the time of ancient Israel, the Disciples of Christ also pondered a similar question, and were bold enough to ask their Master about it.

The story unfolds right inside the magnificent temple situated at the capital city of Judea. Christ had just finished teaching the people, and was actually departing from the temple when one of His disciples approached Him and drew His attention to the splendor of the buildings in the temple (Mark 13:1; Matthew 24:1). But instead of affirming the beauty of this Jewish temple, Christ rather made a prophecy in relation to the temple buildings which made this disciple to gasp with fear. For He told him that there shall not be left in the buildings of the temple, one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down (Mark 13:2; Matthew 24:2). The disciples couldn't allow these serious words from their Master to just pass by without seeking further insights from Him. And so as Christ sat on the Mount of Olives, some of His disciples came unto Him privately and asked Him some questions that were supposed to elicit further light from their Master in relation to the prophecy He had made about the temple in Jerusalem.

Now from Matthew 24:3, we read about some serious questions the disciples asked Christ: "And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" Friends, these two questions related to the time of Jerusalem's destruction and the signs that will precede the second advent of Christ; and subsequently, the end of the world. Unknown to these disciples, the response that Christ will give them in relation to these two questions was going to serve as a lighthouse to the people of God who will be living at the time of the end.

2. Beloved, from Luke's account of this passage in Matthew 24, we learn clearly about the sign that Christ gave the disciples concerning their first question on the destruction of Jerusalem. We read from Luke 21:20-24 the following words of Christ:

"21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

21:22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

21:23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”

(Luke 21:20-24)

Friends, after Christ had ascended to heaven, His disciples who were in Jerusalem continued to watch out for the sign that was to herald Jerusalem's destruction. Now, in A. D. 66 when Cestius Gallus laid a siege over Jerusalem, the Christians in the city saw in this event the sign from their Master in relation to Jerusalem's destruction. Now, when Gallus unexpectedly raised the siege, the Christians in the city took that opportunity and fled from the city. History records that many of the Christians fled from Jerusalem to a certain town beyond the Jordan, called Pella.

Beloved, just four years later after the Christians had fled the city, came the fall of Jerusalem. For in A. D. 70, Titus laid another siege around Jerusalem, and his battering rams broke down the great walls. According to Jewish historian, Josephus, terrible were the experiences that the Jews went through during the siege and the final overthrow of the city. According to this historian, 1,100,000 Jews perished and nearly 100,000 were taken captive during the destruction of Jerusalem. And as Christ prophesied concerning the temple, not one stone was left upon another that was not thrown down by the army of Titus. Remarkably however, no single Christian perished in this destruction because they heeded the words of their Master.

Friends, besides the sign which was to precede Jerusalem's destruction, Christ also gave the disciples some signs which will precede His second advent and ultimately, the end of the world. After the destruction of Jerusalem, the first event that Christ mentioned in Matthew 24 to precede His second coming was the tribulation. From Matthew 24:21-22, we read the words of Christ concerning this tribulation period:

"24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened."

From Christ's words in this passage, this tribulation period was to affect the elect or saints of God. Many Bible scholars see this great tribulation to refer to the 1260 years of Papal persecution of God's faithful children. Friends, this period of 1260 year rule of the Papacy (which began from 538 A. D. to 1798) saw the persecution and massacre of several of God's faithful children who decided to make the Bible the rule of their faith. But as Christ prophesied, the days of this tribulation period were to be shortened for the elect's sake. And beloved, that was exactly what happened. You see, even though the Papal power ruled from 538 A. D. up to 1798, through the increasing influence of the Protestant reformation over Europe, her persecution of the elect ceased somewhere around 1776.

3. Now, as we journey through Matthew 24, we encounter several other signs that will precede the second advent of Christ. Among these signs are a set of peculiar heavenly signs which were to immediately follow the tribulation period. From Matthew 24:29, we read Christ's words in relation to the signs that are to follow the great tribulation: "Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken" (Matthew 24:29).

Friends, as we consider this same account of heavenly signs which precede Christ's second coming in other portions of Scripture, we learn from Revelation 16:12-13 that before the darkening of the sun and the falling stars is a mighty earthquake. Thus, considering the timeline of these three prophetic events, this earthquake could refer to none other quake than the great Lisbon earthquake which occurred on the 1st of November, 1755. This earthquake was without doubt the most terrible earthquake ever recorded at the time.

From the chronology of Christ's prophecy, a dark day was to follow the great Lisbon earthquake. And friends, on the 19th day of May, 1780, the sun was darkened. In fact, there was a spectacular darkening of the sun in the eastern part of continental America. This phenomenon which began around 10 am lasted several hours; and that night as Christ prophesied, the moon appeared as red as blood.

Fifty - three years later, on November 13, 1833, the final sign Christ gave in respect to these heavenly wonders showed up across the United States. Falling stars, in the form of huge meteor showers, rained down for several hours from Maine to Mexico. And many feared the end of the world had come.

4. But friends, more signs were to follow these heavenly wonders before the second coming of Christ. In fact, after Christ had narrated the peculiar heavenly signs which were to immediately follow the great tribulation, He then unraveled unto the disciples a plethora of events that were to mark or characterize the very last days of this earth's history. Beloved, by doing a synoptic study of this topic in the gospels (that is, by considering the various accounts of this story in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21), we gather various signs that are to usher in the kingdom of the Son of God. Now, as we read from these three passages of Scripture in the gospels; as well as other key end time passages of Scripture, we glean the following signs that serve as immediate precursors to the second coming of Christ:

A. DECEPTION WILL ABOUND THROUGH FALSE CHRISTS AND FALSE PROPHETS

Key Texts:

i) "4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many" (Matthew 24:4-5).

ii) "And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many" (Matthew 24:11).

iii) "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect" (Matthew 24:24).

(Supporting texts: Mark 13:5-6; 21-23, Luke 21:8)

FULFILLMENT: False prophets and false Christs abound on every side today. Nevertheless, we should give thanks to God that Christ Himself gave us one particular sign that can enable us to tell these false prophets from the good ones. For Christ said in Matthew 7:16 and 20 that by their fruits, we shall know them. That is, they may profess to be shepherds of the Lord, but through their character we will know that they are not messengers of the Living God but rather agents of the devil. These false prophets will also teach contrary to the clear message of Scripture (Isaiah 8:20), and their prophecies may sometimes also fail to come to pass (Deuteronomy 18:22).

But friends, despite these clear signs from the Bible which unmasks these false prophets, they are still able to hold many people bound to their deceptions because of the miracles that they are able to perform through the power of Satan (Revelation 16:13-14; 2 Corinthians 11:13-15).

Beloved, don't just follow prophets basically because they perform miracles. The Bible says we should "... believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world" (1 John 4:1). Check them out whether their character and message are consistent with the Bible. From Matthew 7:15-23, Christ gave us further warnings in regard to false prophets. The account in this passage reads:

"7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

(Matthew 7:15-23)

B) CIVIL AND INTERNATIONAL CONFLICTS WILL ABOUND

Key Text:

i) "6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: ..." (Matthew 24:6-7)

(Supporting texts: Mark 13: 7-8; Luke 21:9-10)

FULFILLMENT: The twenty - first century has witnessed the horrors of several civil wars and international conflicts. Some of these wars are listed below:

World War 2 (1939-1945)

Fatalities: 50,000,000

South Sudan Civil War (2011-2014)

Fatalities: 1,755

Libyan Government vs Insurgents (2014-2014)

Fatalities: 2,500

Friends, as Christ prophesied, the time has come when we hear of wars and rumours of wars. For civil wars and international conflicts are so widespread and commonplace today, that now we often take them for granted.

C) FAMINE WILL ABOUND IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE WORLD

Key Text:

i)  "...and there shall be famines,..." (Matthew 24:7)

(Supporting texts: Mark 13:8; Luke 21:11)

FULFILLMENT: As Christ prophesied, there are many in our world today who are literally starving to death because they cannot meet the basic necessities of life such as food. In fact, from the United Nations statistics on hunger and world poverty, we find that about 21,000 people die every day due to hunger or hunger-related causes. “This is one person every four seconds, ... Sadly it is children who die most often."

Moreover, from the World Hunger Education Service, we read the following: "The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that about 805 million people of the 7.3 billion people in the world, or one in nine, were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2012-2014. Almost all the hungry people, 791 million, live in developing countries."

Friends, in a world where there could be enough food to feed everyone, we are experiencing these negative hunger statistics as a result of human greed and selfishness. Oh! How the Saviour beckons each one of us to be His representatives, and work to alleviate the suffering of some poor hungry souls in some part of the world (Matthew 25:34-40).

D) EARTHQUAKES, TSUNAMIS AND HURRICANES WILL ABOUND IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE WORLD

Key Texts:

i) "...and there shall be... earthquakes, in divers places." (Matthew 24:7)

ii) "And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, ... and fearful sights..." (Luke 21:11)

iii) "... the sea and the waves roaring" (Luke 21:25)

(Supporting text: Mark 13:8)

FULFILLMENT: According to the Sydney morning herald; December 30, 2003, we read the following: From 1923 to 1988, there were only nine major earthquakes. That is 9 major earthquakes in 65 years. However, from 1990 to 2003, there were 14 major earthquakes in 13 years.

Beloved, one of the deadliest earthquakes recorded in recent history was the Nepal earthquake which occurred on the 25th of April 2015. This earthquake killed about 9,000 people and injured about 23,000. It is sobering to learn that In 2016, a total of 1696 earthquakes, with magnitude of 5 or more, were recorded worldwide (https://www.statista.com).

Friends, tsunamis and hurricanes are also commonplace now. The tsunami which occurred in Haiti on the 12th of January, 2010 is still fresh in the minds of many. For great was the loss which this catastrophe left in its wake. We are living at a time in the history of our world when several fierce storms and hurricanes are being witnessed in several places. And these catastrophes are occurring at a rate that our resources are just not enough to manage the utter destruction that these convulsions of nature leave behind. Friends, Christ's words in relation to this prophecy have been terribly fulfilled in our day.

E) PESTILENCES WILL ABOUND IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE WORLD

Key Text:

i) "... and there shall be ...  pestilences, ..." (Matthew 24:7)

(Supporting text: Luke 21:11)

FULFILLMENT: A pestilence is "a contagious or infectious epidemic disease that is virulent and devastating;" (Merriam-Webster) Beloved, examples of pestilences that have hit our world in this 21st century are tuberculosis, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, anthrax, malaria, cancer, hepatitis, Ebola, hantavirus, E. coli, salmonella, HIV, West Nile, swine flu etc. Today, many people live in constant dread of contaminating one dangerous disease or the other. For pestilences that were unknown only a few years ago have taken our world by storm.

F) FEAR WILL GRIP MANY IN THE WORLD

Key Texts:

i) "... and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; ..." (Luke 21:25)

ii) "Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: (Luke 21:26)

FULFILLMENT: At the moment, many people are living in constant fear of the future. The destruction of the World Trade Centre in the United States on September 11, 2001 coupled with terrorist activities in various parts of the world today have brought great fear into the hearts of many. Besides world terrorism, the possession of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction by several nations in our world today, make many people to shudder when they think about the future. Moreover friends, negative world conditions such as extreme population growth in the world, the greenhouse effect, the diminishing ozone layer, the economic difficulties in various countries, as well as the political instability across the world, are among the few of the issues that have put great fear into the hearts of many in our world today. But friends, amidst all these negative issues that are affecting our world in our time, Christ's assurance to His children is this: "Let not your hearts be troubled" (John 14:1). "Lo I am with you always, even unto the end of the world" (Matthew 28:20).

G) THE WORLD WILL BE A GLOBAL VILLAGE. PEOPLE WILL TRAVEL THE WORLD WITH EASE.

Key Text:

i) "... , even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, ..." (Daniel 12:4)

FULFILLMENT: I believe many of us are witnesses to the fact that it is now easy to travel across the globe than it was some few years ago. Friends, some few decades from now, travelling was quite a tedious undertaking. However, today with super-fast trains, planes and ships, people are able to move from one part of the globe to the other within a matter of a few hours. The world has basically become a global village.

H) THERE WILL BE INCREASE IN GENERAL AND SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE. MOREOVER, THE CLOSED BOOKS OF BIBLE PROPHECY WILL BE OPENED TO THE UNDERSTANDING OF GOD'S PEOPLE.

Key Text:

i) "... , and knowledge shall be increased (Daniel 12:4)

FULFILLMENT: When we cast our eyes around us, we see the fulfillment of this prophecy in a very significant manner. Knowledge has really increased in all spheres of life. At the moment, it looks as if there are inventions to make all arduous tasks quite easy. And friends, a large percentage of the people behind these great inventions are still living.

Moreover, the closed prophecies of the book of Daniel have also been opened up to the understanding of God's people. Before 1798, God's people couldn't really get a clearer understanding of end time prophecies. But friends, these prophecies are now open to the understanding of the children of God across the globe. In fact, this capacity to understand clearly the prophecies in relation to the end time has accelerated the preaching of the everlasting gospel and the three angels' messages as recorded in Revelation 14:6 -12.

I) HOMOSEXUALS WILL ABOUND

Key Text:

i) "Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; ... Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (Luke 17:28, 30)

FULFILLMENT: Friends, the Sodom sign is not something new in our world today. From Scripture, we come across this practice in various time periods of the world (Leviticus 18:22; Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:26-28; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11). However, from the prophecy of Christ in Luke 17:28 and 30, we learn that this evil practice will abound just prior to the second advent of our Lord. At the moment, there are about 20 countries in our world, whose parliaments have passed laws encouraging homosexuality among their citizens nationwide. Just recently, on the 26th of June, 2015, the United States of America joined the ranks of nations who through legislation have encouraged this evil practice on their land.

Beloved, besides the secular world, the practice of homosexuality has permeated even into various religious denominations. For instance, from the Sydney Morning Herald, August 18, 2001, we read that "In Australia from 23% to 58% of priests ... are gay. Friends, as the world rushes to an end, we are going to see great numbers of the human race engaging in this demonic practice. And as the wrath of God was poured out on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19-1-28; Jude 1:7), so will the Lord pour out His wrath on the wicked inhabitants of this world.

J) PEOPLE WILL SEEK AFTER PLEASURE

Key Text:

i) "This know also, that in the last days... men shall be lovers of  pleasures more than lovers of God (2 Timothy 3:1-4)

FULFILLMENT: We are living at a time in the history of our world when people have become lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Satan has blinded many with pleasurable activities so they wouldn't perceive the seriousness of the times in which we live. Many in our world today will rather indulge in pleasurable activities such as: secular TV, soaps and movies; competitive sports of various kinds; the internet, social media, and their associated pornographic content, secular shows and contexts; and night clubs, loose parties and the like instead of spending time with God. Thus it is that in the lives of many, the God of creation is absent, and the god of pleasure reigns.

K) THERE WILL BE A DISOBEDIENT YOUTH

Key Text:

i) "This know also, that in the last days ... disobedient to parents,.." (2 Timothy 3:1-2)

FULFILLMENT: Beloved, I hope you will agree with me that we are living at a time that children are extremely disobedient to their parents.

In 1993, the former Secretary of Education, William Bennett, made the following statement in connection with the moral decadence in America's public schools: Over the years teachers have been asked to identify the top problems in America's public schools. In 1940 teachers identified talking out of turn; chewing gum; making noise; running in halls; cutting in line; dress code infractions; and littering. When teachers were asked the same question in 1990, it was a completely different assessment, they identified drug abuse; alcohol abuse; suicide; rape; pregnancy; robbery; and assault. William Bennett Index Of Leading Cultural Indicators, p. ii (www.goodfight.org)

Friends, according to the Sunday Herald Sun, November 13, 2005, we read the following:  "More than half of Australian parents admit they can't control their children. A report on 4500 parents in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney found 56 percent feel they are failing to deal with bad behavior. About 52 percent reported suffering high levels of stress when trying to discipline their kids. And one-third admitted needing professional help."

Beloved, I believe the results of this study do not apply to Australia alone, but will also be found true in other parts of the world. For the signs of a disobedient youth are among other signs that do herald our Saviour's soon return.

L) INIQUITY (SIN) WILL ABOUND

Key Texts:

i) "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold" (Matthew 24:12).

ii) "1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away" (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

FULFILLMENT: Currently, the world is being filled with so much sin that the love of most men and women are growing cold. Among the growing signs of iniquity in our world today is the breakdown of the family system through divorce. Beloved, the extent at which the divorce rate is rising in various countries of the world is alarming. For instance, from the National Center for Health Statistics in America, we gather the following detail about the annual number of divorces and annulments in the United States:

1900 - 55,751 divorces and annulments

1920 - 170,506 divorces and annulments

1950 - 385,000 divorces and annulments

1975 - 1,036,000 divorces and annulment

1990 - 1,182,000 divorces and annulments

2000 - 1,100,000 divorces and annulments.

Friends, besides the high collapse of marriages today, our world is currently also witnessing the growing tide of every other imaginable form of sin. Beloved, what happened in the days of Noah and Lot is being repeatedly in our world today. The thoughts of both men and women are becoming evil continually. Our world is on the verge of reaching a point of iniquity where God's people will literally feel uncomfortable in staying on this planet any longer. Yet, it is in the midst of this negative world situation that Christ expects you and I to live a godly life; and shine as lights even unto the end of the world (Matthew 24:13; Matthew 5:14-16).

M) THE ENVIRONMENT WILL BE DESTROYED

Key Texts:

i) "And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, ... and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth" (Revelation 11:18).

FULFILLMENT: Friends, it is a clear fact that a large percentage of human activity today is fast destroying our planet. The effects of these human activities such as global warming have become a hot topic in various forums of the world today. In fact, way back in 2002, this came out: "Scientists agree world faces mass extinction", August 23, 2002 CNN.com/ SCI-TECH

From Corey S. Powell (Former NASA scientist and editor of Scientific America) we learn that: "At least 30,000 species vanish every year from human activity, which means we are living in the midst of one of the greatest mass extinctions in Earth's history."

N) SPIRITUALISM WILL ABOUND

Key Text:

i) "For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, ..." (Revelation 16:14).

FULFILLMENT:  We are living at a time in the history of our world when many people are getting attracted to various forms of spirits and mediums. Friends, despite God's clear words against the practice of spiritualism (Isaiah 8:19; Leviticus 19:31; Deuteronomy 18:9-13), many in our world today do seek after spirits through their association with the occult, and other modern forms of spiritualism such as channeling and astra mediums. One popular agency that the devil is using today to draw many, particularly the youth into spiritualism is the occult movies and books such as the Harry Potter series.

From the high priest Egan, First Church of Satan, Salem Massachusetts, we read the following: "Harry is an absolutely Godsend to our cause, an organization like ours thrives on new blood.

Moreover, we also read from the Shepherds Call, p. 4 the following: "In England the Pagan Federation has reported that they have had to hire a youth official for the first time in history! The spokesperson said when questioned as to why the increased curiosity, she replied "we always ask the new interests why they came to call and she said they were led there by a book like Harry Potter."

Friends, I believe the quotes above are straightforward warning messages to anyone who watches or reads occult - content materials such as Harry Potter. Moreover, the fact that many are seeking after spirits today is a clear sign that the second advent of our Lord is eminent; and thus we must prepare to meet Him in peace.

O) UNBELIEF WILL ABOUND

Key Texts:

i) "3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation" (2 Peter 3:3-4).

ii) "37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" (Matthew 24:37-39).

FULFILLMENT: Beloved, just as the people in Noah's day made mockery of the coming flood, so are people going to scoff at the promise of the imminent return of Christ in these last days. Friends, not few in our world today have literally made mockery of the promise of Christ's soon return in public. Moreover, the large majority of people on the planet are also scoffing at the promise of Christ's second coming through their daily pursuits, and the lifestyle that they lead. Friends, few are the people who see through these signs we are going through today, that something dramatic is about to happen in the history of mankind. Few are the people who by their words and deeds show that they really believe in the soon coming of Christ.

Beloved, the majority in our world today have been caught up in "eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage" (Matthew 24:38). In other words, the focus of the majority in our world today is on the daily routines of their life (school, work, entertainment, marriage etc.) without making time to prepare spiritually for the eminent return of Christ. Sadly, many of these people proclaim loudly that they are Christians.

But friends, just as the people in Noah's day were unprepared when the floods came upon them, so is the second coming of Christ going to take these people by surprise. The event of Christ's second coming will come upon them as a thief in the night (2 Thessalonians 5:2). Such people will realize too late that they are unprepared for their Lord's return; and that by focusing all their energies on worldly pursuits, they have actually sacrificed their eternal salvation for a slice of "bread and a pot of lentils" (Genesis 25:29-34).

P) THE GOSPEL WILL BE PREACHED TO THE WHOLE WORLD

Key Texts:

i) "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come" (Matthew 24:14).

ii) "6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters" (Revelation 14:6-7).

FULFILLMENT: According to the words of Christ Himself, the last sign that will clearly tell us that His coming is very close or imminent is the preaching of the gospel throughout the world (Matthew 24:14).

Friends, there is no time in the history of our world when God has opened several doors to enable an effective preaching of the gospel than in the days in which we live. Some few decades ago, preachers had to sail several days across oceans, walk several miles on foot, and actually go through a lot of back - breaking activities in order to get the gospel across to other people. But today, through the miracle of technology such as high speed transport systems, satellites that literally reach the world, television and other forms of visual media, radio, the internet and even social media; the gospel is going clear across the world as never before. Beloved, the fact that you are reading this message on your phone today through social media should really draw your attention to the fact that this last prophecy in regard to Christ's return is being fulfilled very fast.

You see, how on earth could I have travelled to your part of the world and deliver these messages to you at such ease with very little cost? You might never know or meet me in person, but this platform might just be the way God is using to reach your heart and prepare you for His soon coming kingdom.

5. Beloved, all the end time signs that serve as precursors to the second coming of Christ are being fulfilled with a higher degree of intensity right before our eyes. Now, some heart - searching questions that I believe each one of us should find time to ask himself or herself at this point in our study are these:

A) Are these clear signs of the Saviour's return speaking to me in any way?

B) Are these signs impacting my life in any positive way or I've turned a blind eye to them?

C) Like the city dweller who has become accustomed to sleeping through blurring sirens, have I also become so accustomed to this world that I'm also sleeping through the blurring sirens that are signaling the return of Christ?

Beloved, after these heart searching questions, if you realize that the life you are leading now tell clearly that you are among those who are sleeping despite the blurring sirens (signs) that are trumpeting Christ's return, then it's my prayer that you will take some quality time to begin reflecting on your spiritual life; it's my prayer that you begin to seek after the Lord, and make the necessary lifestyle changes that will enable you to meet Christ in peace when He comes back for His faithful children.

6. Friends, in as much as Christ's prophecy in relation to the destruction of Jerusalem came to pass, so will the ultimate prophecy in relation to His second coming also come to pass. The signs that Christ gave the disciples to precede His second advent are clear on every side. Even though some of these signs may affect our lives in a negative way, the Saviour's assurance to us is this: "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh" (Luke 21:28).

Exhortation: "11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light" (Romans 13:11-12).

In our next study, we will consider the topic: The Manner of Christ's Second Coming. The Bible Study reference for this study is Acts 1:9-11. Please do well to go through this study reference before the next study is released.

Stay blessed and keep shining for King Jesus.
